Senior Buyer

Location : Ilfracombe

TDK-Lambda is a supplier to some of the most world leading diverse, technology based original equipment manufacturers worldwide. This includes global leading organisations within Industrial, Medical and Test & Measurement markets. We are entering an exciting period of change and expansion with ambitious plans for the manufacturing facility.

A vacancy has arisen within the Materials Department for a Senior Buyer reporting to the Materials Manager. The overall objective of this role is to assist in the management of systems and procedures relating to all aspects of purchasing involving the procurement of goods, materials and services to ensure that the Company operational needs are met.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain professional relationships with external suppliers and internal customers to ensure parts purchased are of high quality, best cost and lead-time.
  • Ensure that material is delivered on time to enable continuous production in order to meet demand.
  • Maintain and manage supplier relationships, through regular contact and meetings, to ensure continual improvement.
  • Work with the Component Engineering team to identify suppliers of materials and services for our new leading edge products.
  • Identify cost saving opportunities through benchmarking projects.
  • Implement lean supply techniques such as Kanban/consignment stock programs with our existing/new suppliers.
  • Reduce the stock holding and increase inventory turns on the commodity assigned.

Experience, knowledge and skills required:

  • A key aspect of this role will involve dealing with internal and external suppliers, therefore, a confident telephone manner, excellent communication skills and negotiation skills are essential.
  • As well as working as part of a team, the ability to work alone, react to changing targets and being able to prioritise tasks is also crucial for the role.
  • The ability to work proactively by solving issues and presenting solutions whilst maintaining and developing new processes.
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Access) along with previous experience in data analysis is essential.
  • The successful candidate must have a minimum of 5 years purchasing experience in a Manufacturing environment (preferably electronics) and ideally be CIPS 4 qualified.
  • The successful candidate must have a current Driving Licence and be prepared to travel.

This is a full time position working the following hours including Flexi-time (1 hour either side of start and finish time):
Monday - Thursday 07:30am - 16:30pm with a 45 minute unpaid lunch break
Friday 07:30am - 12 noon.

Ideally, the successful candidate will work onsite, however, hybrid options may be negotiable.

Salary: £27,000 - £37,000 (DoE)
