BTC Senior (Technical Lead) Engineer

Location : Bristol Technical Centre

TDK-Lambda UK Ltd is a successful and long established design and manufacturing company of standard and configurable AC-DC and DC-DC power supplies situated on the pleasant North Devon Coast. We are entering an exciting period of change and expansion with ambitious plans for the manufacturing facility.

A vacancy has arisen within the Bristol Technical Centre (BTC) R&D Department for a Senior Design Engineer.  The successful candidate will work as part of a team working to tight deadlines, so a willingness to contribute and enthusiasm to learn are essential.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Electronics or Physics is required (or equivalent).

EXPERIENCE

10+ years of experience in SMPS design including a variety of topologies, including, but not limited to buck, boost and LLC.  Expert magnetics design ability for custom transformers and chokes.  Experience of supervising, guiding and mentoring technicians and other engineers assigned to projects.

Detailed knowledge in principles of SMPS design, as well as latest technologies, the benefits of them, and appropriate application of those technologies, weighing benefits and drawbacks.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Ability to design power supplies from a “blank sheet”, excellent fault finding, diagnostic and problem solving skills. 
  • Experience of design to cost targets.
  • Ability to act as a mentor and support more junior engineers.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written, including report writing.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office applications, as well as electronic simulation tools.

BRIEF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ground-up design of power supplies.
  • Evaluating new topologies and designs for application in TLU products.
  • Providing technical leadership and support to other team members.
  • Creation of Reports on activity (therefore attention to detail is essential).

Hours of work (with 1 hour flexi time either side)

Monday to Thursday: 07:45 – 16:30 with a 30 minute lunch break

Friday: 0745 – 12:15

Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 (DoE) - competitive relocation packages are available.
